Multi Purpose Hose
Multi-Purpose (also known as General Service) hoses are commonly used in basic air and water applications such as garden hose, washdown, certain agricultural fluids, and also used with compressed air / pneumatic applications around the yard, farm, shop and plant. This category of hose is typically 1/4" through 1" ID sizes (with some available up to 2"), available in several colors, and good-better-best performance grades based on factors such as abrasion or fluid resistance. Multi-Purpose hoses are usually made from hybrid thermoplastic rubber blends, EPDM or Nitrile rubbers, or economical PVC compounds. 'Push-On Hose' is another unique, versatile hose that can also crossover to a range of similar Multi-Purpose applications.
All specifications (including tube and cover compounds, reinforcement, design characteristics, bend radius, coupling or attachment methods) provide advantages or disadvantages in a customer's specific application. When selecting a Multi-Purpose hose, customers need to evaluate their application's STAMPED requirements including external operating environment, compatibility to the material conveyed, working pressures, temperatures and connections. Examples: an oily shop environment will typically breakdown PVC/Vinyl or EPDM hoses; cold or hot environment will have adverse effects on the type of hose used; PVC hose will become rigid on a cold day and a wet noodle on a very hot day. Specifications with additional layers of reinforcement will also make the hose more robust, kink resistant, and able to handle greater working pressure, however, will be heavier and less supple. Additional, specialized product options are available in AIR, WATER, CHEMICAL, FOOD & SANITARY categories.
NOTE: Multi-Purpose Hoses ARE NOT INTENDED for critical applications or permanent mechanical installations, such as interior plumbing applications, heat pump connectors, natural gas, critical fluids, etc.
