These are used on certain corrugated hoses (with a PVC helix) when using band clamps, strapping, or sleeves/ferrules. They are wrapped onto the hose for about 8-12" at the ends in order to permit a neat, flat surface for better clamping integrity, plus they should extend past the sleeve/clamps/hose barb in order to reduce bending stress at the coupling, which leads to premature failures. They are available for a right hand (clockwise) or left hand (counter clockwise) helix.
