Our N series brand 4-lug Universals are a quick acting coupling designed for 1-1/4 - 2" low pressure, non critical fluid transfer, such as water washdown hose in mills. This brand/series is NOT recommended for HD air, and no brands of 2 lug or 4 lug Universals are recommended for use with steam. Safety clips & restraints are highly recommended to prevent accidental disconnection, and never disconnect any hose while under pressure. We do not recommend crimp sleeves on 1-1/4"-2" 4-lug cast iron Universals, the cast barb design is not compatible with modern crimping technology. 4-lug Universals should not be used in critical applications as they are an older legacy product that is of inadequate design for proper coupling integrity and do not provide a high enough level of safety or reliability - especially in applications subject to pressure and/or temperature. For compressed air in sizes over 1", we recommended to use "Dixon Boss Ground Joints" or "Campbell Viton Seal Ground Joint Couplings" - not 4-Lug Universals.
