Short Shank Couplings, which are suitable for light duty suction or low pressure discharge of liquids, have largely been replaced by camlock style fittings. Many users prefer the quick, easy connections of camlocks rather than the traditional threaded fittings. Shank couplings are, however, an economical alternative to camlocks and do provide a female swivel to attach to NPT threaded KC Combination Nipples. Aluminum and brass short shanks are listed but plated malleable iron (PI), nylon (NY), and stainless steel (SS) are also available.
