Internally expanded, permanent (requires special machinery for installation), Scovill-type couplings provide full flow of material being conveyed and are commonly used for the suction or discharge of fuel, oil, or other fluids (NOT for air or any plastic/non rubber hose tubes). They are used in home fuel oil delivery, marine refueling, tank truck service, or in aviation refueling applications (meets API 1529 for Aviation Fueling). With Biodiesel/E85 biofuels coming on the market, the testing on its effects to metals is still being researched. Prolonged exposure to brass may accelerate the oxidation of the biodiesel and form sediments/gels/ salts in the fuel line. 316 stainless steel "may" be more suitable for biofuels where there is frequent exposure or blends of over B20. Replacement gaskets for the female ends are available (#N90-xxxBN). Assemblies used in critical applications must be tested/certified at regular intervals.

Detail Comments: Female NPSM scovills are only used for ease of installation. Due to the fact that NPSM thread seals on a gasket will wear over time, they are not to be used in permanent applications. For permanent applications use an N270 pipe union which offers a mechanical seal.
